Basements in Manchester, NH
Fieldstone, damp and finished space
Older Manchester basements have fieldstone or brick foundations that were never intended to be dry in the modern sense — they were built to hold up a house and store coal. Finishing one is entirely possible and routinely done badly, usually by treating a damp problem as a surface problem.

Water first, walls second
If there is standing water after a heavy rain, efflorescence powdering the stone, or a tide line on the slab, no amount of board will help and we will say so before quoting. Gutters, grading and drainage are outside work and belong to a different trade. Once the basement stays dry through a wet spring, finishing it is straightforward.
What belongs down there
Mould-resistant board rather than ordinary paper-faced sheet, held clear of the slab by a small gap so nothing can wick up from the concrete, with the base trim covering the gap afterwards. Framing kept off the masonry where possible. It costs a little more per sheet and saves the whole job.
Repairs to a basement that is already finished
Most of what we do down here is damage rather than new work: a pipe that let go in a cold corner, a stain on a stairwell ceiling, a section of wall that took water once. Those are cut back, dried and rebuilt like any other repair, with better board than was there before.
Often turns up alongside
People dealing with Basements usually also ask about our a hole in the wall service, professional cracks over doors and windows and a brown stain on the ceiling services — call and we'll tell you which one your job needs.
