Bathrooms in Manchester, NH
Steam, splash and the wall behind the tub
A bathroom in an old house is a wet room that was never designed as one. Add a shower to a 1920s floor plan, run it twice a day for fifty years, and the wall behind the tub surround does what you would expect. This is a small share of our work but almost always the same story.

Soft walls and peeling paint
Paint lifting in sheets near the ceiling line, a wall that gives slightly under a thumb beside the tub, or a musty smell that returns after cleaning all point the same direction. The material has absorbed moisture repeatedly and lost its integrity, and nothing applied to the surface will bring it back. It comes out.
What goes back in
Moisture-resistant or mould-resistant board on the wet walls, cement board wherever tile is going anywhere near water, and ordinary board elsewhere in the room. Getting this right adds very little to the bill and is the difference between a repair that lasts and one that repeats.
The extractor argument
A great many of the bathrooms we open have no working extractor, or one that vents into the attic instead of outside — which, in a New Hampshire winter, deposits every shower you take onto the underside of the roof deck. That gets noted on the estimate. New board buys you time; moving the wet air out of the house solves it.
Often turns up alongside
People dealing with Bathrooms usually also ask about our a hole in the wall service, professional cracks over doors and windows and a brown stain on the ceiling services — call and we'll tell you which one your job needs.
